The Australian Recreational Motorists Association (ARMA) was founded in late 2018 by a group of passionate recreational motorists. Recognising the lack of representation for those enjoying public lands, ARMA was officially incorporated in September 2019 under NSW Fair Trading and is a not-for-profit organisation registered for GST.

No. All committee members are volunteers. The only financial reimbursement allowed is for approved expenses, as outlined in the Constitution.

Trustees:

  • Do not vote on daily operations

  • May trigger a re-election of the Committee (unanimously) if ARMA strays from its purpose

  • Are not fixed for life; they can resign and be replaced

Membership is open to:

  • Individuals and families

  • Constituted clubs and associations

    • Any club involved in:

      • 4WD, touring, trail biking, vintage cars, hot rods

      • Activities that require a registered vehicle for access (e.g., horse riding, hiking, fossicking)

       

  • Corporate or for-profit Associate Members
    Facebook-only groups are not eligible unless they become registered entities.

No. ARMA complements other groups. We aim to unite all recreational motorists under a single national voice, not replace existing associations.

Vision:
To be the national voice for all recreational motorists, preserving access to public lands.

Mission:

  • Ensure access and fairness in public land use

  • Support members through partnerships with landowners, government, and industry

  • Create financial stability and offer meaningful member benefits

As defined by the ATO:

  • No profits can be distributed to members

  • All funds go back into supporting ARMA’s mission and services

  • Members may be reimbursed for expenses, but not profited from association membership

  • Member affiliation fees (scaled by group size)

  • Grants and sponsorships

  • Referral commissions on select services/products

  • For affiliated clubs:

    • Public Liability

    • Management & Association Liability (incl. Professional Indemnity)

    • Personal Accident Cover during ARMA/club activities

Only if they are a member of a constituted ARMA-affiliated club.

Yes. We offer:

  • Financial statements

  • Minutes of meetings (on request)

  • Strategic documents (published when finalised)

Only confidential working drafts are kept internal.

  • Full membership from the Queensland Four Wheel Drive Association

  • Associate membership with the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association
    We’re actively building alliances with other peak bodies representing all recreational motorists.

  • Yes. Clubs with:

    • 5–100 members = 1 delegate

    • +1 delegate for every additional 100 members (up to 5 total)

    Delegates must be financial members of their club and of ARMA.

  • Delegates:

    • Can vote on matters at General Meetings

    • May appoint a proxy if they cannot attend

    Both must be financial and nominated before the meeting.

  • No. Only formally constituted and registered groups/clubs may join or access ARMA’s insurance.

    Facebook groups can:

    • Become incorporated

    • Or direct individuals to join affiliated ARMA clubs
